Craving Rain

There’s a point in summer where the skies have been blue for weeks. This may be how you landed here. The occasional cloud stirs a longing of rain and winter, so strong that you go online and simply watch videos of thunderstorms.
It’s different from a chocolate or ice cream craving that can be satisfied by a simple walk to the corner store. This is deep-rooted and it relies on a universe of perfect atmospheric conspiracy. For most, a bright day, sun shining and blue skies are what do it for them. But for some, myself included, it is the pounding of rain against the windows that speaks to their souls.
On these days, dark clouds are not ominous, they’re magnificent. If you can avoid getting out of pajamas, you must. Go to your bookshelf, pick something you can get lost in and put the kettle to boil. And then sit, sit and sit. Stare and read and sit and sleep. These rainy days are a reset, and reset you must.
But what about work and the other obligations life has conned us to entertain? They are there, and we cannot escape them, but the craving for rain, is also the craving for a day of freedom, inside and content.
Here’s to big windows, comfortable chairs, great books, coffee and, of course, rain storms aplenty.
